Deshaun Watson: Behind the criminal investigation

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The FOX 8 I-Team is unearthing new developments in the sexual misconduct cases filed against Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. Fresh questions about why dozens of women have filed lawsuits, but investigators have not filed any criminal charges.

So far, 24 lawsuits have been filed and attorney Tony Buzbee, who is representing all the accusers, said more lawsuits could be filed soon.

Buzbee says he recently learned that an assistant district attorney corresponded regularly with Watson’s legal team.

“You’re going to learn that they were pretty comfortable with the AD,” Buzbee told I-Team.

A Harris County, Texas grand jury decided not to indict Watson on any criminal charges.

Buzbee released a statement saying in part, “The police investigative team was satisfied that Watson had committed more than 10 sex crimes… The assistant district attorney had blocked investigators from speaking to the women who had filed charges but did not had not filed a criminal complaint. ”

“I wouldn’t take the information that I was trying to give them,” Buzbee said. “But Watson’s team created a PowerPoint presentation to present to the grand jury.”

Watson’s lead attorney also just spoke to the I-Team, saying yes, he provided information for the grand jury to consider and he’s not apologizing.

“Every attorney who believes their client is not guilty has the opportunity to present evidence before the grand jury is charged,” said attorney Rusty Hardin, whose firm represents Watson.

A grand jury in another Texas county also declined to indict Watson on any criminal charges.
