Criminal investigation into shooting involving Lake Worth officer sent to Tarrant County criminal prosecutor – CBS Dallas/Fort Worth


LAKE WORTH, TX (CBSDFW.COM) – A shooting investigation involving an officer who killed a teenager has been submitted to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

The incident happened on September 3, when a car in which 18-year-old Estevan Ramirez was a passenger was stopped during a traffic stop. The driver and front passenger got out of the car and ran off, but Ramirez, the rear passenger, reportedly stayed.

A former officer fired his gun, killing Ramirez.

Police said they believed he had a gun. The police chief said at the time that the officer had “no choice but to shoot”.

In the days that followed, Lake Worth police alleged the car was stolen and the weapon the victim allegedly possessed was used in an aggravated robbery. However, none of the other three people in the car have been arrested or charged with any crime.

On December 1, the former officer who fired his weapon resigned from the force.

The Lake Worth Police Department thanked the Fort Worth Police Department and Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes for their professionalism throughout the investigation, which is now moving to the Criminal District Attorney’s Office. of Tarrant County.

In the coming months, the case will go to a grand jury for consideration.
