CP orders investigation into deaths of 6 in Enugu community – The Sun Nigeria

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Ammani, has ordered the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of six people in a community in Enugu.

The commissioner also ordered the department to find out why eight patients were hospitalized under the same bizarre circumstances in Akutara village in Adani community of Uzo-Uwani local government area.

The commissioner’s guidance is contained in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ndukwe, in Enugu on Sunday.

Ndukwe said the guidelines were given following the receipt of a report of sudden and unnatural deaths and hospitalizations in Akutara village on August 27.

The police spokesman said the commissioner had already sympathized with the families and friends of the deceased.

The PPRO noted that the police boss called on people in the community to keep the peace and support the police with information needed for the investigation.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that one of the confirmed deceased victims, Obinna Dike, 31, attended her own traditional wedding ceremony at Obollor-Eke in Udenu council area on August 26 with her relatives and d other victims of the incident.

“They then went home and continued the celebration.

“However, the next morning, none of them came out of the room where they were sleeping.

“This caused the door to be forced open, and everyone in the room was left unconscious with frothy discharge from their mouths,” the police spokesman said.

He said they were immediately evacuated to a hospital where six of them were confirmed dead and taken to the morgue for autopsy.

Ndukwe noted that eight others had responded to treatment. (NOPE)
