Bethlehem’s former financial director faces criminal investigation

UPDATE: Former Bethlehem CFO’s robbery scheme involved cellphones bought at city expense, cops say

The former budget and finance director of Bethlehem is under criminal investigation.

The Northampton County Attorney’s Office spokeswoman confirmed that Mark Sivak is being investigated by her office.

“We will post more details when they become available,” spokesman Davin Jurgensen said in an email Tuesday.

An email sent to Sivak City’s email address on Tuesday was bounced with the message: “This employee is no longer at Bethlehem City.” Further attempts to reach Sivak failed.

Bethlehem Human Resources Director Michelle D. Cichocki released this statement:

“Mr. Sivak was officially fired for violating numerous city policies following a City of Bethlehem investigation that began in January 2022. No further information will be provided at this time as Mr. Sivak is the subject of an ongoing police investigation.

Bethlehem Police Chief Michelle Kott said she could not discuss Sivak’s ouster or the case because it is an ongoing investigation.

Sivak was the city’s budget analyst as early as 2008, according to Express-Times records. Archived Stories changed his title to Director of Budget and Finance by 2010. He also served a stint on the Saucon Valley School Board, according to the records.
